Common Thread Closet was born out of a simple frustration: plus-size people are consistently underserved by fashion, resale, and clothing access — and we deserve better.
Thrift stores rarely carry extended sizes. Resale platforms are dominated by straight sizes. Fast fashion is often the only "affordable" option — and it's designed to fall apart. For plus-size people, building a wardrobe that actually fits, that feels good, that lets you show up as yourself — is expensive, exhausting, and often just plain hard.
Common Thread Closet is our answer to that gap. A shared closet. A trusted community. A place where your size is the norm, not the exception.
We started inside the Power Plus Wellness community — a plus-size movement and wellness space with 25,000+ members across NYC — because trust already exists there. We're building on that foundation, slowly and intentionally.

Who This Is For
Plus-Size New Yorkers who are done settling.
Common Thread Closet is designed primarily for plus-size individuals of all genders, based in New York City. You don't have to look a certain way, dress a certain way, or fit anyone else's idea of what plus-size looks like.
You just have to want a more communal, more sustainable, more joyful relationship with clothing — and be willing to show up for others the way we show up for you.
We are also actively working toward adaptive clothing inclusion for disabled members. If this matters to you, tell us — we want to build it with you.

When you join Common Thread Closet, you're not just signing up for a service — you're entering a relationship. These are our shared commitments to each other
The Agreements
We treat all garments with care. Wear borrowed pieces as you would your own favorites. Handle them gently, store them thoughtfully, and return them clean.
We return items on time and in agreed condition. Timelines exist to keep the closet moving. If something comes up, communicate early — that's all we ask.
We communicate openly and respectfully. If there's a problem with an item, a return, or a member interaction — we talk about it. Silence is not the answer in a community built on trust.
We honor the dignity and autonomy of all members. This is a body-liberating space. No comments on bodies, sizes, or style choices — ever. We all deserve to dress for ourselves.
We participate in good faith. This co-op works because we all contribute. Lend what you can, borrow what you need, and invest in the health of the whole.
