Common Thread Closet is a community clothing co-op based in New York City. We take privacy seriously — especially because our community is built on trust. This policy explains how we handle your personal information.

When you create an account or apply for membership, we collect: your real name, email address, phone number (if provided), Instagram handle (if provided), and any information you include in your listings or messages on the Platform.We also automatically collect basic technical information such as your IP address, browser type, and pages visited — standard for any web platform.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to: (a) operate your account and enable borrowing and lending, (b) communicate with you about your membership and transactions, (c) send community updates and event announcements (you can opt out anytime), and (d) improve the Platform based on how members use it.We do not sell your personal information. Ever.

4. Real Names & Community Visibility

Because Common Thread Closet uses real names, your name will be visible to other members within the Platform — on your listings, borrow requests, and member profile. This is intentional and central to how trust works in this community. If you have concerns about this, please reach out before joining.

Sharing, Retention, & Your Rights

5. Who We Share Information With

We share your information only as necessary to operate the Platform: with Sharetribe (our platform provider), with payment processors for membership fees, and with other members as described above (name, listings, messages). We do not share your information with advertisers, data brokers, or third-party marketing services.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. If you cancel your membership, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within 90 days, except where we're required to retain records by law (e.g., for financial transactions).

7. Your Rights

You have the right to: access the personal information we hold about you, correct any inaccurate information, request deletion of your data (subject to legal requirements), and opt out of non-essential communications at any time.To exercise any of these rights, contact us through our beta form or via direct message on Instagram.

8. Cookies

Our Platform uses basic cookies necessary for the site to function (login sessions, preferences). We do not use third-party advertising cookies.

9. Children's Privacy

Common Thread Closet is for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we become aware that a minor has created an account, we will delete it promptly.

We may update this privacy policy as the Platform evolves. We will notify active members of material changes by email.
